Decision Making in Romeo and Juliet Essay Example
Decision Making in Romeo and Juliet Essay As Elizabeth Kubler-Ross once wisely said, ââ¬Å"I believe that we are solely responsible for our choices, and we have to accept the consequences of every deed, word, and thought throughout our lifetimeâ⬠. Carefully analyzing the decision one is about to make with incorporating others opinions assists one in reducing the likelihood of consequences. Young adolescents of the present day are making decisions of which they have not thought thoroughly, and its effects are shown well in Gina Higgins poem, Hash for Cash. Similarly as shown in the illustration of the two obese boys, parents often make choices for their children that they think are the best for them but they are entirely the opposite. Decision making from only one point of view is adequately shown in the William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play, Romeo and Juliet because in love one should not lose oneââ¬â¢s senses of what is logical and what is completely obtuse. It is vital for an individual to cautiously consider oneââ¬â¢s options as choices include consequences. All throughout oneââ¬â¢s life an individual will make decision that at first seems perfect but in the long run one will abruptly approach the penalties in the future. With colossal amounts of information for young adults regarding issues that these individuals face in their everyday life, it is hard to comprehend why they are still making unwise choices. The poem, ââ¬Å"Hash for Cashâ⬠(Gina Higgins) exceptionally portrays a young adult who is ââ¬Å"stoned to the eyebrowsâ⬠(Hash for Cash) because he or she has chosen to do drugs and irresponsible alcohol usage. The reason being that they knew about its consequences ? that would later take is in command of the personââ¬â¢s life. Subsequently ââ¬Å"studies seem a waste of timeâ⬠(Hash for Cash) and alas for most of these individuals, ââ¬Å"reality [becomes] startlingâ⬠(Hash for Cash) and the age where they were supposed to start living their life ? t abruptly ends due to the impractical mistake these individuals had selected to make earlier in their years. These adolescentsââ¬â¢ lives could have taken a different route if they had thought twice about the decision they were embarking to make. If they parents had taken that moment in time to initiate the problem their child was going through these young adults may have had a brighter future. It is evident that a child is who he is from his or her s urroundings; especially his parent(s), and until that child is of ââ¬Ëageââ¬â¢, decisions are made for him, particularly in the dietary department. The two obese children that are exposed in the illustration impeccably show the consequences that the children have to face, for the reason being that the parent(s) had not decided to consider the healthy alternative. Unfortunately the two boys in the photograph are having their childhood snatched away from them, because the food that they are consuming will cause them to comprise various health problems, such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and many others. Ronald McDonald, the trademark for the company is shown to be sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air while these children are inside consuming an unhealthy diet, and pointing for more. In addition Ronald McDonald is not an obese man, unlike the children; therefore the company McDonalds is sending a hypocritical massage to the public about the affects of consuming Mcdonalds products. Thus, with all the information that is available the parent(s) of these children should have been able to make a logical decision about the food that they are going to be providing for their children. Just because the idea of it appeared appealing and one was in such haste, one should not make such a huge decision about their life without the reconsideration of its alternatives. The notorious Romeo and Juliet had made a decision that; alas lead to their demise. ââ¬Å"A pair of star-crossââ¬â¢d loversâ⬠(Romeo and Juliet) they were madly in love with each other, because they were both in love with the idea of having a companion for life. At the mere age of thirteen Juliet had already had a perspective about marriage and it was that, ââ¬Å"It is an honour that I dream not of. (Romeo and Juliet) Likewise for Romeo for the reason that he had just recently gotten rejected from the women he had ââ¬Ëlovedââ¬â¢ before Juliet. After their first meeting they had already planned to get married, without anyone elseââ¬â¢s input and support, clearly showcasing that they had not thought ahead of the consequences they would have to endure. This rushed process lead to several mis communications and hurdles, between Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s families and themselves. Romeoââ¬â¢s decision had caused the mortality of this childhood companion, Mercutio in a battle and his mother, Lady Montague because the ââ¬Å"Grief of [her] sonââ¬â¢s exile hath stoppââ¬â¢d her breath. â⬠(Romeo and Juliet) These two lovers had helpers, which aided the two of to come together; Julietââ¬â¢s Nurse and Friar Lawrence. These helpers were both of age and wise but the only incentive they had of helping Romeo and Juliet was because it might ââ¬Å"turn [the] householdsââ¬â¢ rancour to pure love. â⬠(Romeo and Juliet) If Romeo, Juliet, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence had clearly thought through and looked at the possible consequences, than more than Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s lives would have been saved. In love one might make wrong choices but they can be preventable, by just assessing through and ââ¬Ëreading the fine printââ¬â¢ of the decision one is about to make. Likewise for parents, for the reason being that they should analyze the choices they are making for their children, because in their perspective it might be wiser but in the future it can become a heavy burden. Young adults are only a couple of years away from the world of adulthood, and the choices they make now, will greatly affect them in ever aspect of their life in the future. Thus one should look ahead into the future to the consequences of the decisions they are about to make so they can ask for aid and prevent it. This is very much shown with the community centre project in New York City, which happens to be a couple of blocks away from the site of the horrific events of 9/11. They people who had embarked on creating this centre with a mosque built in had not thought of the response they were going to get and the consequences that are going to be endured by everyone who is either Muslim or someone who is against the construction of the centre. If the people who had thought of this project and had considered of the consequences that they would have to undergo then people in the United States would not have been divided by distinctive religious beliefs. P. S : Dont copy/paste this and hand it in as your assignment at school.. not worth it. just go and learn. and by the way this essay isnt as good as it looks, not going to get you good grade at all.

Reformation and Ritual essays
Reformation and Ritual essays Question: What attitude or attitudes did the Reformations take towards popular religious forms? And how did the Reformations themselves come to embody ritual elements? The Reformation was a period of much social unrest. Whilst there existed a physical struggle evident upon the surface, underneath lie an intense philosophical and religious debate that served to test and question the values of Catholicism and the reasons for the need for change argued by the Protestant. The Reformation movement challenged the Catholic belief system. It argued against the praising and worshipping of icons and other such relics and argued that all praise and worship should be reserved for the Word of God and God alone. However, there is evidence to suggest that early Protestants felt a need for the reassurance offered by such icons and further, it has been argued, that the Protestant Reformers, in attempting to destroy ritual, actually served to strengthen Catholic belief in same. The irony is, in that attempting to destroy such rituals, the movement actually served to embody ritual elements. The methods by which it attempted to destroy ritual, can actually be interp reted as being ritualistic in and of themselves. The Christian Sacraments were and are an important part of Catholic life. In understanding the significance of such sacraments to the Catholic and the theoretical arguments against same put forward by the Protestant Reformer, the need for the Reformer to extinguish such importance, becomes evident. For both the Catholic and the Orthodox the Eucharist represented and represents the body of Christ. It is believed that initially, the Eucharist is simply unleavened bread, however upon being blessed such bread actually turns into the body of Christ, a metaphysical transformation occurs that remains unexplained except by reference to a miracle and a blessing. Conversely the wine is believed to become the blood of Christ. It is believed ...

The Main Sources of Law in England Today and the Role of Judges Essay
The Main Sources of Law in England Today and the Role of Judges - Essay Example The Human Rights Act of 1998 enables all the UK courts to guard the rights identified in the ECHR (Alisdair 2007, p. 20). The English law is based on three pillars; parliamentary sovereignty, the rule of law, and separation of powers. Parliamentary sovereignty refers to the supremacy of the United Kingdom Parliament in legislative matters. The principal source of UK law is the UK Parliament. Separation of powers means there is the existence of some degree of independence in the running the different roles of government. Conventionally, these roles are the executive, legislative, and the judicial functions of government (John 2011, p. 145). The rule of law calls for equality of all before the law. The rule of law encompasses basic liberties including freedom from arbitrary laws and arbitrary powers (Alisdair 2007, p. 21). Statutes Statutes are laws, which are made by parliament. The House of Lords, House of Commons, and Monarch are responsible for making legislation. Legislation begin s with a Bill, and there are three types of bills; public bills, private bills, private membersââ¬â¢ bills. Public Bills are introduced by the government on public policy matters that affect the entire country. Local governments or large public companies introduce Private Bills. Private Membersââ¬â¢ Bills are introduced by the Members of Parliament who are not Government Ministers or Lords (John 2011, p. 147). The Legislative Process Bills may be initiated into either House of Lords (except Finance Bills, which start in the House of Commons) or the House of Commons. A Bill follows several stages; First Reading, the title of the Bill and the main objectives are read out. Second Reading; the Bill is fully read. The main debate takes place concerning any contentious issues; amendments can be made at this stage. Joint Select Committee on Human Rights reports any occurrence of Human Rights issues. After the debates, the House votes whether to proceed or not. Committee Stage; at thi s stage the Committee scrutinize each and every clause of the Bill. The Committee Stage is an exercise of eliminating any drafting errors. Amendments of the Bill may be proposed by the Committee. Report Stage; the committee files its findings to the House of origin. The proposed modifications are then debated, and the members vote for or against the amendments (John 2011, p. 149). Third Reading; The Bill is fully read, and at this stage, a debate will be there if at least six MPs request it. The MPs will vote whether the Bill should continue or not. If a Bill successfully passes all the stages, it then continues to the alternative Chamber. Any modifications made in the alternative House should be submitted back to the House of origin to assent to the amendments; this in known as Ping Pong. Once a Bill successfully passes through both houses, it then goes to Royal Assent. This entails a formal process whereby the Queen assents the Bill, and it officially becomes a statute. The newly generated statute contains a date of implementation shortly following the Royal Assent. Delegated legislation is made under the power of the Act of Parliament. The Act gives an institution or a person authority to make the detail of the law on behalf of the Parliament (John 2011, p. 150). The following are the advantages and disadvantages of Statute Law as demonstrated by John (2011, p. 152). Advantages Parliaments are elected since they have policies citizens want. This means that their laws

'How has the study of literature changed over the last 100 years' Essay
'How has the study of literature changed over the last 100 years' - Essay Example Literature had and always will define the life style of people in any nation at all. It used to be written by people who felt for the society, who wanted to improve the society or define the societyââ¬â¢s good points and bad points. They were also the ones understood the need of the society. The people of the societies, usually American, and English in general were the ones who used to like parties, and social dinners. They usually were people who lived in the countryside, were ruled by the kings and queens, fought wars on the horses, were pirates, sailed in ships for long journeys lasting for days, liked romance, long walks on the grass in the evening, horse-riding, playing the piano, writing and reading poetry, and dancing. They were also the people who ballet danced. Quite a handful was able to go to educational institutions ââ¬â colleges and universities. War was prevalent in most of the countries and continents over the capture of land power and wealth. These wars were fo ught on horse- backs, with swords and spears, and took days and days on end to end. The people who went to war had little or no hope of returning. And the people who stayed back awaited their return without hope. There was no contact or correspondence during that time-frame. People had to wait days for a letter to arrive. And to feel connected many wrote and read literature which described to them, battles and sea, and different places, just so they would feel connected and belonging. All these events gave rise to the fashion of writing and reading literature and poetry, ads the society was taken over by pain, loss, hurt, wait, anticipation , romance, tranquility, so almost of the accounts were written down so people would entertain themselves in time of loneliness and pain. These account of literature and poetry defined it all to them. The lonely housewives and the growing up teenage girls used to read romance novels and it used to help them fantasize about a prince charming that w ould come one day and lift them off their feet and sweep them away with him. The sailors used to study literature on their time away from home so that they didnââ¬â¢t feel the absence of home and their wives. All this was provided to them via literature. With the passage of time the people who went to the universities and colleges discovered new ways of communication. The telephone was discovered and was becoming common-place. People now did not have to wait for days o talk to loved ones. Literature was now only left to describe places and romance and battles. Soon the telephone turned into hand held cell-phones, and alongside, the computer technology came into being. People relied less and less on literature to tell them about battles. The computer became abundant and the people found it easy to what videos from all around the world, instead of reading them from a book. Social parties were growing lesser as the class of rich people started to fall in number and blended into the middle class. People did not go for long wars, too far off places. Wars were also not fought on horse backs and certainly not with any swords and knives, but instead with nuclear numbs. These were, very literally, machines of death. So much so that people did not like to write or read about it. Literature was now only limited to romance. By the turn of the century, electronic media became the soul of the people. Whatever was required was found either on a computer, or on a high-speed internet cable, or in a smart-phone. People who liked to

The Significance of the Earth in The Good Earth :: The Good Earth
The Significance of the Earth in The Good Earth "And O-lan in the house was not idle. With her own hands she lashed the mats to the rafters and took earth from the fields and mixed it with water and mended the walls of the house, and she built again the oven and filled the holes in the floor that the rain had washed." There can be no doubt that the symbol of earth in Buck's novel, The Good Earth, is one so potent that it permeates and binds the entire tale. It is presented repeatedly throughout the novel, either through gentle allusion or outright statement. None can dispute that the earth itself is a vital component in the livelihood of any farmer, thus it is not surprising that the farmer Wang Lung places so much value into his lands; however, there is a separate element of the earth that Pearl S. Buck brings forth in her tale about a farmer's prosperous rise in feudal China, that element of regeneration and revitalization that is so apparent within this selected passage from the book. Many times throughout the book did the earth pull Wang Lung through hardship and difficulty, and it was the one constant factor in his life, even as things changed--people dies, great houses fell, war and famine raged, and inner turmoil plagued his very being. Throughout all of these obstacles the earth was always there, waiting for Wang Lung--whether as poor farmer or as wealthy man of the village--to return to it, and draw from it those ever-present qualities of life and healing. The very words of the selected passage are pregnant with these qualities, as Wang Lung and his family, returning from the south to his land after a great and terrible period of famine, close those horrible years through the almost magical substance of the earth. It is symbolic how O-lan the wife, tending to the structure of the farmland house (a symbol itself in the Wang family) uses the "earth from the fields" to mend the walls of the house--thus the ailments of the "house" are healed by the richness of t he land.
